An investigation is underway after a fire broke out at a south side business early Thursday morning.

It started just after 4:30 a.m. at All-Star Glass at 58 Avenue and 99 Street.

More than 20 firefighters were on scene working to put out the blaze, which was declared under control about an hour after it first broke.

Traffic was blocked from 99 Street between 51 Avenue and 60 Avenue for nearly two hours.

The blaze originated in the main floor bay at the back of the building.

"By the time we got here the fire was spread out just about all over the warehouse, on the floor against the walls and ceiling, it was all over," said Cpt. Pierre Pomerleau with Edmonton Fire Rescue.

At the height of the fire, smoke could be seen billowing from the top of the building from blocks away.

No one was inside at the time of the fire.

Fire investigators determined later the blaze was deliberately set, and police have taken over the investigation.

Officials said the fire caused an estimated total of $300,000 in damages.
