Some residents of downtown Edmonton took advantage of a chance to give their two-cents worth on how they would like the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system to expand into the city centre.

Concerned citizens and city officials got together, Wednesday evening, to brainstorm ideas on the preliminary design plans for the southeast to west LRT line.

The city says they want to make the transition into the neighbourhoods as seamless as possible. The biggest challenge to that plan is the planned LRT route through Edmonton's Chinatown.

Resident Patricia Fong is not happy with the current design.

"Think of your mother, your father, your grandfather and grandmother crossing an LRT track to get to a community centre across the street, which was built specifically for them." said Fong.

Arthur Rossier also lives in the area and said he's totally satisfied with the new route.

"A lot of people work downtown and need a better way to get there." said Rossier.

There is another public meeting to discuss the southeast to west LRT route set for later this month (April 24th) at St. Vincent School (10530 - 138 St.).
