PC leader Alison Redford has personally contacted Wildrose leader Danielle Smith to offer regret for a tweet that was sent out by a campaign volunteer, questioning why Danielle Smith didn't have children of her own.

Redford has denounced the tweet as inappropriate and hurtful as she attempts to put out a political fire that started on the popular social media site.

The tweet sent out Friday was in regards to Smith's campaign promise for the Wildrose Family Pack. The Tweet read:

"If @ElectDanielle likes young and growing families so much, why doesn't she have children of her own? #wrp family pack = insincere."

That tweet was sent from a campaign volunteer who has since resigned from her position with the PC's.

Smith refused to fire back on the issue, but released a statement revealing she and her husband have tried to have children of their own, even undergoing fertility treatments, but that they were unsuccessful.

"If we are going to have robust discussions, it should be about ideas, not personal issues," said Smith. "I said all I am going to say in my statement; it is a personal issue."

The tweet, and other recent so-called personal attacks, has led NDP leader Brian Mason to speak out on the issue.

"We're not shy on criticizing other parties," said Mason, "But it's based on policy and not personality."

This is the second time in three days Redford has admitted fault on behalf of her party. The first time was regarding the delayed response for getting PC MLAs to pay back all money they were paid for their work on the so-called "No Meet" Committee.
