Robin Swanson fights back tears as he looks at the memorial set up in a quiet northside neighbourhood cul-de-sac, where his brother was found dead.

Chad Swanson's body was found in his SUV in the area of 167th A Ave. and 113th St. Thursday night.

On Saturday afternoon, the victim's brother was at the scene, looking at the homemade memorial made of flowers and mementos.

"He was a great guy," said Swanson. "He had lots of caring, loving friends and family."

Robin was working out of town when he got the news. He says not only was Chad his brother, but he was his best friend.

"Me and my two brothers and my dad were like the four amigos," said Swanson. "The Swanson Clan we used to call ourselves; we were just all so close."

Chad's body was discovered when a resident out for a walk noticed what looked like a bullet hole in the SUV's windshield, and saw the 26-year-old's lifeless body slumped behind the wheel.

Chad was known to police, and had a scheduled court appearance for drug charges the day after he was killed. But his family says that's not who Chad was. They want people to remember him as a caring son, brother, friend and father.

Chad had an eight-year-old son who Robin says he was devoted to. Robin says his brother was teaching him how to ride his bike hours before he was killed.

"He [nephew] says to me I miss my dad," says Robin. "It was pretty hard to watch my nephew go through that."

Chad's killing is Edmonton's third homicide of the year. Police say it's early in the investigation and they have no leads on suspects. They're appealing to the public for help. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
