GODS LAKE NARROWS, Man. - A northern Manitoba woman faces drug charges after police found three grams of cocaine hidden in her baby granddaughter's clothing.

Sergeant Del Byron of the God's Lake Narrows RCMP says the cocaine was in a pocket in the child's parka, wrapped in tape.

Police say the 39-year-old woman and the 15-month-old girl had just arrived at the community airport from Winnipeg.

Byron wouldn't say what led officers to search the child.

He says the little girl remained calm throughout the search.

The woman faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Corporal Miles Hiebert says officers don't often encounter cases where children are used to smuggle drugs.
