A 29-year-old man from Cochrane is facing charges in connection to a highway collision near Innisfail that killed four people.

Police say an SUV was heading south when it collided with a Range Rover that was travelling north in the southbound lanes on the QEII Sunday.

Four people in the southbound vehicle died at the scene; two men, both aged 35, and two women, aged 52 and 39. Another victim, a 28-year-old female, was transported to hospital in Edmonton suffering from critical injuries.

Tyler James Stevens is now facing 14 Criminal Code charges, which include four counts

impaired driving causing death.

Staff members of the Coast Edmonton Plaza hotel in downtown Edmonton are grieving the loss of the four people killed in the collision.

The victims were temporary workers from the Philippines who were employed at the Coast Edmonton Plaza Hotel.

"Our team here is shocked, stunned, saddened beyond words. We're providing grief counselling to help people get through. It's a family oriented hotel and again, they were like brothers and sisters to us, which makes it all the more difficult," said Kelly McCauley, the general manager of the Coast Edmonton Plaza hotel.

The accused made a court appearance Tuesday morning.
