A day after two RCMP officers were shot and wounded on the job near Killam, Alberta, CTV News has learned more about the young officers, what they had in common, and their strong ties to the RCMP.
Constables Sidney Gaudette and Sheldon Shah are recovering from wounds sustained in a confrontation Tuesday afternoon near Killam.
The pair has a lot in common, starting from families deeply rooted in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Both of their fathers are long-time RCMP members.
The two young officers started their careers in the Killam RCMP detachment immediately after graduation, and had become close friends.
Their spouses are also about to start the next step towards a career in the RCMP, both had plans to train at Depot in Regina.
Gaudette got married only a week and a half ago, and Shah and his fiancée had been planning their own wedding ceremony for May.
Gaudette and Shah were two of four officers sent to execute a search warrant at a rural property near Killam Tuesday afternoon, when there was an exchange of gunfire.
Both were sent to hospitals in Edmonton for treatment, where it's believed they are in stable condition.
RCMP are still working to track down Sawyer Clarke Robison, 27, who is a person of interest in the incident.
