A man in his 20s is facing unprecedented charges in connection to a collision in November that left three young men dead.
Johnathan Robert Pratt, 28, of Beaumont, Alta., was taken into custody last week after being released from the hospital where he had been recovering from injuries sustained in the collision on November 26th.
Pratt now faces three charges each of impaired operation causing death, driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit causing death and manslaughter.
Emergency crews and members of the Beaumont RCMP were called to the scene on Highway 625, near 60 Street at about 2:45 Saturday, Nov. 26th.
Authorities were initially called to a single vehicle rollover, but a short time later another car also involved in the crash was found.
One of the victims of the crash was airlifted by Stars Air Ambulance to hospital, but did not survive.
"The amount of speed, the amount of impairment and the environmental factors," Cst. Jodi Heidinger with Leduc RCMP said Monday. "Anyone looking at that would say the likelihood would have resulted in a fatality."
As a result of the crash 18-year-olds Brad Arsenault and Kole Novak, and 22-year-old Thaddeus Lake died.
At the time, police said alcohol and speed were both factors in the crash. Additional details surrounding the crash aren't being released as the case is now before the courts.
Pratt's next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
