RCMP in Red Deer have laid charges against a woman in her 40s, after a man was found dead in his home on Christmas Day.

On Sunday, December 25, Red Deer RCMP were called by a relative of 58-year-old Shaughn Lumley, to check on his well being.

According to police, the relative had been attempting to contact Lumley for several days with no success.

When officers checked the home, they found Lumley dead inside.

Police opened a suspicious death investigation; however it was quickly upgraded to a homicide investigation when investigators found multiple injuries consistent with a struggle, along with evidence of an altercation on the scene.

On Wednesday, December 28, RCMP arrested 43-year-old Stephanie Walroth, who knew the victim.

Walroth has been charged with one count of second degree murder, and one count of obstruction of justice.

She remains in custody, and will appear in Red Deer Provincial Court in January.
