Edmonton Police have identified the man in his 20s who was found severely injured in southwest Edmonton on Tuesday, but succumbed to his injuries moments later, and are calling his death the city's 44th homicide.

EPS said Wednesday 21-year-old Ashneil Ajit Singh died as a result of gunshot and stab wounds Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators are asking for the public's help in learning more about the events leading up to Singh's death.

"If you live in the area of 170 Street and 21 Avenue SW, please check your backyards for any suspicious items like tire marks, blood or bullet casings," Detective Scott Jones said. "If you find anything please do not touch it as it could be evidence,

"Call police immediately."

Police also said the victim had been driving a white 2003 Infiniti G35.

The request stems from a series of events that began with a call from the victim just after noon on Tuesday.

Singh called for help on his cell phone; he was suffering from gunshot wounds and a stab wound, but he didn't know where he was.

Police were able to locate him by triangulating the position of his cell phone.

Once he was found, Singh was airlifted by Stars Air Ambulance to hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Following their initial investigation, Police said Tuesday they believed Singh drove himself to the location where he was found.

Investigators have been working on locating the crime scene.

Police are asking anyone with information that could be helpful to this investigation to call the police non-emergency line at 780-423-4567, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
