Police have confirmed that a bomb killed an Innisfail woman Friday.
RCMP said a package that was hand delivered to her home exploded killing 23-year old Vickie Shacktay.
The young mother was in a wheelchair due to a car accident a couple of years ago.
Shacktay's caregiver was in the apartment at the time but was able to escape.
"It was pretty intense, sitting there on the coach and it shook the whole house," Neighbour Garrette Stewart said.
"It was a loud band," he explained.
"All the windows was blown out of the place. It was kind of freaky."
Investigators from all over Canada have arrived to assist in the investigation.
"This type of thing does not happen in this greater area," Cpl. Warren Wright said.
"This is the sort of thing that happens somewhere else, in some other country. It doesn't happen in central Alberta. It doesn't happen in Innisfail, Alberta."
Those in the community said the incident has them concerned.
"It's scary," resident Diane Phillips said.
"I was petrified last night. I couldn't hardly sleep all night."
"They are devastated," Pastor Dave Wiebe said on behalf of Shacktay's family.
"They are in shock.
"They can't get their head around what's going on."
RCMP have warned people in Innisfail to be cautious if they find any unidentified packages.
