Months after a local athlete died after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street in north-east Edmonton, police have charged three people in connection to the fatality.

At about 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 31-year-old Jonathan Andre was crossing 118 Avenue at 42 Street when he was struck by a car travelling west.

By the time emergency crews arrived, he was already deceased.

Andre's death was a huge loss for Edmonton's boxing community.

"He was one of the role models," Andre's training partner Paul Mackenzie said in June. "Kids looked up to him, I was one of them, I as well looked up to him."

Following an investigation by EPS Traffic Section detectives, police have charged 24-year-old Nicole Reid and a 16-year-old female with dangerous driving while street racing causing death.

A 23-year-old passenger was issued a summons for supervising a learner without a valid driver's license, and allowing an unqualified person to drive.

Both drivers are scheduled to appear in court on January 13, 2012.
