Edmonton Police have laid charges in connection to a fatal collision that happened in August north of downtown.

The crash occurred at about 3 a.m. on Friday, August 19.

A police investigation into the collision found that the driver of a car travelling northbound on 101 Street when his vehicle crossed over the median and hit another vehicle travelling westbound on 118 Avenue.

Emergency crews responded immediately, and the Jaws of Life were used to remove the driver of the other vehicle.

However, the man in his 60s who was driving the second vehicle died of his injuries on the scene.

Fifty-one-year-old Bob Lap Man Chinn has been charged with:

  • Impaired driving causing death
  • Operating a vehicle with a BAC over 0.8 causing death
  • Dangerous driving causing death

Chinn's first court appearance has been scheduled for January 17, 2012.
