A plan to pass a parking ban on bus routes all winter long has hit a roadblock. New signs had already been set up along bus routes indicating a parking ban effective this November, but it appears that process is now on hold.

The city's snow removal policy has not been approved by city council, but transportation officials said they couldn't wait and began installing the signs.

Under the draft version, people who are parked on a bus route when plows are trying to get through could be ticketed or even towed.

The no parking signs along bus routes run through residential areas, so people who park on these streets won't be able to from November 15th to March 15th.

Councillors heard from city planners that the four-month ban would allow plows to clear bus routes quickly, improving access and safety.

But a number of councillors say it's not fair to people who live near bus routes and usually park there.

Councillors on the transportation committee voted to scrap the proposed four-month parking ban, and instead asked city staff to create a plan for temporary parking bans on snow routes that would be in effect after major snowfalls.

Councillor Ben Henderson says drivers will still have to obey the rules, or they will face tickets and tows.
