Vandals have targeted an Edmonton hair salon behind a controversial ad.

Graffiti was found on the back of Fluid Hair salon Thursday. It says, "This is art that is wrongly named violence, that was violence that was wrongly named art."

The message is in reference to a controversial ad that portrays an abused woman with the caption: "Look good in all you do."

The poster for Fluid Salon depicts a woman sitting on a sofa with a black eye. Standing behind her is a man, carrying what looks to be a diamond necklace.

The ad went unnoticed for two years on their Facebook page until the online community caught wind of it.

Police are investigating the vandalism.

"We are upping our attention to them and we are going to have a lot of patrols around here," said Sgt. Rick Evans with the Edmonton Police Service.

The owner of the salon has offered to donate proceeds from haircuts to the Edmonton Women's Shelter if a customer brings in the ad.
