Red Deer RCMP have released the identity of a 22-year-old man found dead in a church parking lot. On Tuesday evening, officers were called to a Red Deer neighbourhood on a report of gunshots fired.

It was around 7 p.m.,when officers were called to the area of 63rd Street and 59th Avenue in the north-end neighbourhood of Highland Green.

When police arrived, they located two men inside a vehicle, and both men were injured.

Police say 22-year-old Oscar Salazar of Red Deer was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old male was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital, where he was treated and then released.

Police don't believe this was a random attack.

"The evidence right now seems that it was almost targeted if you will, for Mr. Salazar at this point," said Const. Chris Kosack with the Red Deer RCMP.

Police have not confirmed whether the victim was shot and have not ruled the death as a homicide. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
