Homicide detectives are investigating after burned remains were found on an abandoned rural property Wednesday.

Officers were called to the property near 156 Street and St. Albert Trail after people walking in the area found a burned-out 2010 Chevrolet Impala on Wednesday, July 27.

The remains of a man were found in the destroyed vehicle.

A detective working on the case said the extent of the damage to the remains has left police with few clues for the investigation, and they are asking for anyone who may have seen anything to come forward.

"Assistance from people coming forward and talking to us is huge," Detective Dan Jones said. "[It] would assist our investigation greatly."

The Medical Examiner's Office has conducted an autopsy; and the victim is known to police.

However, police will not release the cause of death or his identity at this stage of the investigation.

Police said they have no suspects, but are looking into drug and gang activity.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the area of 156 Street and St. Albert Trail in the past two weeks to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or the EPS Dispatch line at 780-423-4567.
