Parents pushing for secular education in Morinville have received some disappointing news. The group says the Alberta government is not keeping its promise to offer modulars for students to receive non-faith based teachings.

"It's really shocking, I'm still reeling. I thought this was established," said parent Donna Hunter, who sold her Morinville home in April because she was unwilling to send her children to a Catholic school.

The group says the Alberta Government has not kept their promise to offer modulars for students to receive non-faith based teachings. The parents say a deal had been reached for the Sturgeon School Division to provide modular space, but Alberta Education now says that's too expensive.

Parents say other available space was rejected by Alberta Education.

"Today we went in and they had to tell us, guess what? It's not happening, they're not sending in modulars and GSACSD (Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools) is not sharing space. We're right back where we started. They're doing nothing," said Hunter.

But the superintendent denies that is the case, saying they can provide temporary space until portables become available later this year.

"The challenge is we simply can't get the modulars that we need in place by September -- that's beyond the control of Sturgeon School Division and Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools," said Superintendent of Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools, David Keohane.

Keohane says they can get interim space within the town for two to three months. Then once the permanent portables are in place at Vanier School, the students will transfer there.
