A Newfoundland and Labrador airport has returned to business as usual after a cargo plane slid off one of its runways early Saturday morning.
A Purolator plane was arriving at St. John's International Airport at 8:15 a.m. when it overshot the runway by approximately 22 metres, crashing into two sets of landing lights.
Officials closed the airport temporarily, but it has since been reopened.
Flights are still running on schedule, according to St. John's airport authority.
The 727-200 jet from Moncton, N.B. wasn't carrying any passengers and there were no reported injuries to the flight crew, said NTV reporter Carolyn Stokes.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain a mystery.
"There was very heavy rain at the time but we're not sure if that had anything to do with the plane overshooting the runway," Stokes told CTV News Channel.
Bob Nurse, airport director of security, confirmed that after the crash there was damage to the plane's tires and to the runway lighting system.
Officials from St. John's Transportation Safety Board plan to investigate the incident.
