The RCMP is investigating the suspicious death of an adult female in Lamont County. The woman's body was located at a rural residence, near the junction of Highway 16 and Range Road 184, in Lamont County on Tuesday.

Police were called to the residence around 7:30 p.m. on a report of gunshots.

Officers located a woman in her 60's once they arrived on scene.

"Our members responded and found a deceased adult female inside of a residence on that range road, also inside that residence, was an adult male. He was taken into custody without incident," said Const. Wally Henry, with the RCMP.

Officers and forensic investigators have been focusing their attention on a mobile farm located on the property. But they are giving few details about what they believe happened leading up to the death.

News of the death has come to a shock to neighbours.

"There was a gun complaint last night, and that was a really big shock," said resident Henry Klepach.

The identity of the woman has not been released. A neighbour confirms a sign located at the front of the property shows the names of those who reside at the residence, Nels and Connie Magnuson.

Neighbours CTV spoke with say the owners of the property have been there since the 80's.

"He originally was supposed to retire, same as I did, a year and a half ago. But as much as she goes, we haven't really seen much of her at all," said Klepach.

The RCMP is working with the Alberta Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death.

An autopsy has not been scheduled at this point but is expected to take place in the next few days.

No charges have been laid as yet.
