The province has unveiled the results of a month-long inspection campaign that focused on young workers in Alberta. During the inspections, the province reports no stop-work or stop-use orders issued, but the province says some work still needs to be done to get worksites safer.

The latest round of inspections targeted areas such as food courts. Of the 118 initial inspections, there was no indication of imminent danger, but 181 orders were still issued.

The province says three-quarters of the orders related to inadequate first aid training, emergency preparedness, dealing with harmful substances and hazardous material, or a lack of proper hazard assessments. Officials found 36 of the inspections resulted in no observed violations.

The employment minister says its an important time of year to make sure young workers are safe.

"These results are a step in the right direction. However, as a former teacher I would hesitate to issue a passing grade just yet. There is still work to do as these numbers clearly indicate," said Minister of Employment and Immigration Thomas Lukaszuk.

The next inspection campaign will focus on residential construction later this summer.
