RCMP and Alberta Sheriffs spent the Canada Day long weekend cracking down on nearly 3,000 unsafe drivers.

In total, officers laid 2,767 charges across the province, which included 2,193 speeding violations.

Officers also charged 17 impaired drivers and issued 17 twenty-hour suspensions for alcohol or drug use.

Another 113 tickets were distributed for seatbelt or child restraint infractions, and 39 motorists received a ticket for various driving violations, including careless driving or stunting.

The blitz began on Thursday and lasted until Sunday.
