The death of a 22-year-old man, who was found lying in the street in the area of 107 Street and 107 Avenue this past weekend, has been ruled a homicide.

Just after midnight Sunday, officers were called to the area after a fight was reported.

Officers found the victim, 22-year-old Bruce Dumais, lying on the ground in the area. He was taken to hospital where he later died. He died as a result of a stab wound.

Dumais' friend Travis Lewis told CTV News his friend was attacked by three people.

"He [was] jumped by three guys," Lewis said. "[He was] stabbed once. Instant death."

The mother of Dumais' two young children, Chelsie Janvier, told CTV News police told her Dumais was stabbed three times. She said Dumais was walking to the store when he was attacked.

Police say after reviewing video surveillance from the area, detectives have determined that there were a number of people along 107 Avenue between 106 and 107 Streets during the time of the altercation (between the hours of 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Detectives are interested in speaking with those individuals.

The victim was wearing a dark t-shirt, jean shorts, white socks and no shoes.

This death now raises this year's homicide count to 26.
