The RCMP has seized hundreds of thousands of counterfeit Viagra pills and designer clothes destined for distribution in the Greater Toronto Area worth an estimated $6 million.

On May 5, the GTA section of the RCMP intercepted a package imported by a Mississauga company, based on information provided by B.C. officers.

The package contained approximately 15,000 suspected counterfeit Viagra pills and was destined to a warehouse leased by the accused.

Soon after, investigators seized about 100,000 suspected counterfeit Viagra and Cialis pills in blister packs, as well as boxes used to prepare the pills for resale at a warehouse.

During the raid officers also seized designer label clothes and accessories including Armani, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Adidas, Gucci, Hugo Boss, LaCoste, MAC cosmetics, among others, which were being stored, labeled and tagged for resale in the warehouse.

The potential resale value of the fashion items is estimated to be in excess of $5 million.

"Criminal organizations profit from these illegal activities, without regard for the health and safety of Canadians, or the negative impact their activities have on the Canadian economy and legitimate business," said Insp. Todd Gilmore, from the GTA federal enforcement section. "The RCMP will continue to work with our partners to protect the health and safety of Canadians."

Abrahaam Benmoise, 56, of Hamilton has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime, contrary to the Food and Drug Act.

He is scheduled to appear in Brampton Court on June 10.

The investigation is ongoing.
