A 37-year-old man residing in Leduc has been linked to five alleged sexual assault cases through DNA, according to Edmonton police and Leduc RCMP.
In January of this year, the Leduc RCMP identified and charged 37-year-old Oliver James Doherty with one count of sexual assault.
Police say evidence collected during the investigation were analyzed by the RCMP Forensic Crime Lab that linked the Leduc incident to four other sexual assault files dating back to 2004.
Investigators reveal the DNA in the Leduc case linked to two sexual assault cases reported in Edmonton in July and November of 2004, as well as one case in Vegreville occurring in December 2004, and another reported in New Westminster, B.C., in February of 2010.
"The service takes these events very seriously and we do not forget about any incident that goes back to 2004, even longer. They are always important to us, and it's always something that we want to deal with," said Det. Sean Armstrong with EPS sexual assault section.
Doherty faces multiple sex-related charges.
His next court appearance is scheduled for May 27th.
