Men convicted in RCMP shootings seek court review

EDMONTON - Two men who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the deaths of four Alberta Mounties want Canada's highest court to take a look at their case.

Lawyer Peter Royal says the Supreme Court will be asked to review the sentences given to his client Dennis Cheeseman and to Shawn Hennessey.

The two admitted they gave gunman James Roszko a rifle and a ride the night before he ambushed four RCMP officers near Mayerthorpe in 2005.

Hennessey was sentenced to 15 years in prison, while Cheeseman got 12 years.

The two asked the Alberta Court of Appeal to reduce their sentences, but it upheld them in a ruling last September.

Both Hennessey and Cheeseman say they feared for their own safety and that of their families if they didn't help Roszko.
