An industrial accident off Highway 16, on Provincial Avenue near the Flying J truck stop, has resulted in an explosion and a fire.
The deputy chief with Strathcona County Services says work was being done for a new business by a contractor near a gas line when a leak and fire occurred. Ken Jones says the fire generated a large amount of black smoke.
Staff escaped unharmed.
A small evacuation was conducted of a nearby business due to the risk and potential for incident expansion.
The incident has also been reported to Occupational Health and Safety officials.
