Formal Liberal-turned-independent Dave Taylor has joined the Alberta Party.

Sue Huff, Acting Leader for the Alberta Party, says this is a critical step for the party.

"We anticipate great growth over the next year and with the help of many, we will be well-prepared for the next election."

Taylor was drawn to the party because he says it's what Albertans have been desperately looking for.

Last spring, Taylor told media he could better serve Albertans as an independent. At that time, Taylor said the Liberal party had lost faith in leader David Swann. Taylor said Swann refused to listen to what Albertans have to say.

Taylor now says he is looking forward to pressing the Stelmach Government on the issues affecting Albertans.

Taylor believes the Alberta Party's beliefs are consistent with those of his Calgary Currie constituents.

The party has existed in different forms since 1985 but it was only last year the party was rebuilt moving to the centre of the political spectrum. The party says it has a number of key values including fiscal and social responsibility, sustainability and democracy.
