Friends and co-workers are identifying the two bodies found on a Millet property are those of well-known Métis activist Ron Jones and his wife Corinne.

Neighbours tell CTV News the property is owned by Ron Jones, who is known in the court system. In 2007, he was voluntarily charged with illegal hunting so he could challenge Alberta hunting laws.

RCMP revealed Monday the discovery of the two bodies on the rural residence located a few kilometres east of Millet is  considered to be suspicious. They confirmed later Monday afternoon that they are not looking for suspects in the case.

The grisly find was made Sunday morning after police say they were dispatched to the scene around 9:40 a.m. on a report of suspicious activity. On Monday morning, officers appeared to have seized three rifles from a trailer on the property.

Friends tell CTV News the couple had been going through a rough patch in their relationship. Friends also say Jones had recently suffered some financial trouble.

CTV News was told Corinne worked a trap line with her husband near Cochrane. Friends say Corinne loved horses and competing in rodeos.

RCMP have not confirmed the identities.

This recent tragedy is a grim reminder of the deaths of two young boys last February.

Two-year-old Connor and ten-month-old Jayden were found in the bathtub at the family's Millet home.

The boys' mother's car was later found near an Edmonton overpass where police responded to a reported suicide attempt.

Allyson McConnell is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of her two sons.
