After a day more reminiscent of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, dozens of bison which escaped from a Camrose ranch Monday evening were finally captured.

Late Tuesday evening a number of the runaway bison found their way in to a local landfill area. RCMP and wildlife officials were able to use a makeshift enclosure to contain the animals. Around eight of the massive beasts were encouraged into a trailer for a trip back home.

This bizarre scene began to unfold late Monday night after Camrose RCMP sent out a news release letting the public know that 30-40 buffalo had escaped and were on the loose north and northeast of Camrose.

The animals quickly broke up into smaller groups and split up. , making capture extremely difficult.

Numerous sightings of the animals provided a unique thrill for local residents. "You know you just go for breakfast and you got a herd of buffalo," said Breanne Kisilevich. There were reports of buffalo sightings around the Big Valley Jamboree site, at a local golf course and walking through downtown Camrose towards city hall.

Camrose RCMP say there are still several bison that are unaccounted for. If you do spot a wayward buffalo, you're asked to call 911 or Camrose RCMP at 7800-672-3341.
