Foul play suspected in case of missing St. Albert couple

The RCMP now suspect foul play in the disappearance of a missing couple from St. Albert.

"There is foul play involved in here some how. There is criminal act already. Burning a motorhome is a criminal act in itself -- you put that together with the missing persons there something with foul play happening here," said Sgt. Patrick Webb with the RCMP.

The RCMP have released video footage of the missing couple on what is believed to be the day they were departing for a trip to B.C.

On July 3rd, 78-year-old Lyle Thomas McCann is seen fueling up his motorhome at a Superstore gas station in St. Albert. He and his wife, Marie Ann McCann, have not been seen or heard from since.

The RCMP are following up on the many tips that have poured in about the missing St. Albert couple.

The Prince George RCMP detachment says a couple came in with information about seeing a light-green Hyundai Tucson SUV driving around in the area.

"We have two more people that have come forward and have seen this vehicle in town, given us a partial licence plate and in one case, a full licence plate -- these are credible witnesses," said Gary Godwin with the Prince George RCMP detachment.

The couple left for a holiday in B.C. and police say there has been no record of the pair making any phone calls or using their bank account since.

After paying a visit to the gas station, it is believed the couple then took to the Yellowhead Highway in the RV, with their light green Hyundai Tucson in tow.

The couple was supposed to meet up with their daughter on July 10th in B.C., but when they didn't arrive, she notified St. Albert RCMP who then issued a missing person's bulletin.

"Were trying to find this SUV and hopefully my parents are with that SUV or somehow if we find the SUV than we can find my parents," said the couple's son, Bret McCann.

Bret McCann says a calendar inside the couple's home outlined where they wanted to stop along their trip.

"They had noted on the Monday and Tuesday they had planned to be in Kelowna."

The RV belonging to the couple was found burned-out near the Minnow Lake campground about 35 kilometres southeast of Edson.

RCMP say an Edson RCMP officer came across the burning RV and was able to pull information from the registration card. The officer attempted to call the registered owner of the RV, but that was unsuccessful.

At that point, the file was then passed along to the St. Albert police detachment. Police would not say if the St. Albert detachment followed up on the case.

Officers do not currently have any suspects in the burning of the RV. The family is certain the couple would have never come to the campground where their motorhome was found.

The road leading to the campsite is pitted with deep pot holes.

So far, the RCMP has received more than 80 tips from the public and say they are in the process of following up on the information they have received. A Facebook group started by the couple's children now boasts more than 14,000 members.

Investigators are asking people to keep an eye out for the couple or their missing SUV. The licence plate of the green Hyundai Tucson is ZPK 289.

The family is asking everyone to print off a poster created for the missing couple. The poster can be found on the family's Facebook page.
