A 33-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a 61-year-old man was shot and killed during an altercation at a house party Monday.

Vincent Desmond Kakakaway has been remanded into custody and is expected to appear in court on June 23rd.

Around 12:30 a.m., police were called to a rural residence southwest of Thorsby.

Police say a house party was going on when the altercation occurred. Police say the dispute led to 61-year-old Bruce Carstairs getting shot, and he died as a result of his injuries.

Police are looking for anyone who may have picked up a hitchhiker between Buck Creek and Thorsby on June 14th between the hours of 12:30 a.m. and 7 a.m, to call Thorsby RCMP at 780-789-3950 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
