A three-year-old girl from the Grande Prairie area remains at the Stollery Children's Hospital Thursday after she was attacked by a Rottweiler earlier in the week. Her family is now calling for dogs to be banned from public places.
The little girl had to undergo intensive reconstructive surgery and now has 150 stitches in her face.
Little Caidynce King was at a baseball game Monday night in Grande Prairie with her parents.
The RCMP say the girl was playing with a Rottweiler at the park when it bit her face. But the girl's parents say that's not the case at all.
The girl's father says his daughter was running around the bleachers to meet her mom, when he says a dog tied up to the stands, lunged at the three-year-old. Rodney King now questions why the animal was allowed on site in the first place.
"You don't get people taking their dogs to the mall and stuff like that and you don't get dogs going to the schools, so why any other public outing place?"
Grande Prairie peace officers say if a dog is on a leash, it is allowed in city parks. They say there are no bylaw changes planned at this point.
Doctors say little Caidynce will have some scars.
"It shouldn't have happened at all. It shouldn't happen to anybody," said King.
The dog owner tells CTV News she has now been charged with having an animal that attacks, bites or injuries. The woman says her dog Charles has been around children in the past and has not shown any signs of aggression. The owner maintains she was jumping down from the park bleachers to be beside her dogs as the little girl approached.
