A 54-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter in the recent death of his younger brother.

On Monday, Bonnyville RCMP say the accused, Barry Lyzun, told officers that his brother had died at their family home after taking his prescribed medication.

Police say their investigation led them to believe the death of 48-year-old Terry Lyzun was suspicious.

RCMP now believe the accused provided his brother with the prescribed medications, which caused his death. Both brothers had consumed a large amount of alcohol at that time.

Police say a recent autopsy has failed to determine an exact cause of death. Investigators have now ordered a toxicology exam, but it could take up to several months for those results to come in.

In addition to the charge of manslaughter, Barry Lyzun is also being charged with criminal negligence causing death.

He is scheduled to appear in Bonnyville court on May 18th
