A 68-year old woman who runs a seniors care facility in south Edmonton has been charged with assault.

Police say Jeanne Marie Hackema is now charged with one count of global assault.

An investigation began after a complaint surfaced that a former 55-year-old resident of the facility had been assaulted.

About ten people live at the facility located in Twin Brooks. Police were seen gathering evidence at the centre Thursday, but would not give details about the assault other than the victim did not require medical attention.

In some instances an assault might be a definitive. One assault on this date, with this a global assault charge would be from one date to another date," said Acting Staff Sgt. Roxanne McKean with the Edmonton Police Service.

Alberta Health Services has also attended the home to investigate, but none of the residents have been removed.

Reports have surfaced that the facility received prior complaints about overcrowding, but provincial officials were unable to confirm or deny these reports Friday.
