Edmontonians are being offered a chance to ask questions about a new downtown arena development proposed for the city.

The Katz Group will host a public open house on May 6th at the Art Gallery of Alberta to reveal sketches of what the arena and entertainment district could look like.

Developers are expected to gather feedback and field questions from the public.

"Our object is to provide greater detail than perhaps what has been given historically," said Bob Black Katz Group executive vice president.

The Katz Group says at that time there will no discussion on architectural design or possible funding models.

"The funding model is still a matter that is being worked on," said Black.

Last week, the Katz Group submitted its zoning application to the city for the arena development.

It revealed a few months ago it wants to the city to pay for and own the $400 million arena. But there's now an apparent step back from that idea.

"We're now working through an engagement process to try and find the one that best suits the needs of Edmontonians," Black explained.

Some city councillors now question whether the public's questions can be answered in time with the Katz Group's goal of completing the arena by 2014.

"That's a tighter timeline than I think you'd usually see on this size and shape of project," said Coun. Ben Henderson.

The Katz Group believes the goal is within reach and say it hopes to have a more definitive answer on who is paying for the arena in the near future.

The open house will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
