A brown peahen has finally been caught after running loose in north Edmonton the past few days.

Two DJs from local radio station 91.7 The Bounce made the capture Thursday morning. Dylan Wowchuk and Robbie Gibson, joined in on the hunt Wednesday and finally succeeded in a catch.

"We just kept chasing it until we were finally able to safely grab it with the net," Robbie Gibson told CTV News.

Earlier Wednesday, one Edmonton resident attempted to capture the bird with a blanket after it had taken refuge in her backyard. But, the animal managed to break free from the woman's grasp.

Animal control officers tried to capture the animal Monday afternoon, but their attempts were unsuccessful. An Edmonton resident called animal control Sunday night after he heard tapping on his upstairs window.

Officers had asked residents not to approach the bird, instead make the call and allow the city to handle the problem.

"We hoped that the public would have let us do our job. We have the tools to do it rather than going up and putting themselves at risk," said Keith Scott, animal control officer.

Animal control officers said they had no plans to attempt to catch the bird on a roof because it's too dangerous. The radio duo climbed onto rooftops and captured the bird with a net.

The two could now be facing trespassing charges over the stunt.

The bird was turned over to animal control officers who are now assessing its health.
