Nearly half of Edmontonians rate Mayor Stephen Mandel's performance as acceptable, according to an exclusive CTV News/ACCESS poll.

The poll shows 27.6 per cent rate Mandel's performance as our city's leader as very good, 47.5 per cent give him an acceptable rating and about 25 per cent say Mandel is doing a poor job.

Mandel tells CTV he feels there is always room for improvement.

"I think you can always do things better, I mean you try to communicate with people as best you can."

And the mayor appears to be communicating well with females.

Thirty-one point eight per cent of women say the mayor is doing a very good job versus 22.7 per cent of men.

Mandel credits his team for his success.

"You work closely with council and administration and so one person doesn't do things -- it's done by a group of people so I thank Edmontonians very much for their confidence."

Only 7.6 per cent of people polled feel city council is doing a very good job, while 57 per cent say council's performance is acceptable, and 35.4 per cent say it's poor.

"I think that if you were to look at specific individuals that deal with specific councillors, those numbers might be a little different," said Couns. Tony Caterina.

Mandel promises to tell the public very soon if he'll run for a third term this fall.
