Police have laid charges against an Edmonton man in connection with a crash that left one woman dead.

Christopher James Dew, 27, has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, driving with blood alcohol over .08 causing death, and impaired driving causing death.

The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Charlene Brown, who lived a block away from the collision site on 127th Street and 127th Avenue.

Her daughter, Leann Brown, told CTV News she drove up from Calgary when she heard the news.

"It's just senseless, I don't understand. She was coming home from the 7-11. She was on the sidewalk," said the 26-year-old woman earlier in the week.

Police say the crash happened Sunday just after 12:30 a.m. The victim was walking northbound on the sidewalk at 128 Avenue and 127 Street when she was struck by a vehicle.

Police say a Subaru Impreza, believed to be travelling at a high rate of speed southbound on 127 Street, collided with another vehicle. It then slid sideways down the road, onto the sidewalk, and struck the female victim.

The driver of the Subaru received minor injuries in the crash. A father and son in the other vehicle escaped the crash unharmed.

Family members told CTV News Brown's body was cremated on Wednesday.
