Police have released the name of the man beaten to death in Inglewood.

Marcus Tremaine Deveaux was found unconscious on Monday evening near his home on 22 Avenue and 17 Street S.E.

He was out walking when he was beaten beyond recognition.

A passerby found the 37-year-old and called 911. Deveaux was rushed to hospital but he died shortly after arrival.

Investigators say it appears Deveaux was a victim of a random assault and he had no connection to his attackers.

"It's awful," says Deveaux's father Don, from his home in Ontario. "He wouldn't hurt anybody it just wasn't in his makeup."

Darrin Thomas Amond has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to the attack.

The 30-year-old was arrested on Tuesday.

Amond's sister doesn't believe her brother could have played a role in such a brutal attack. "Darrin's not really a violent person. He's more of a down person but he knows what he's doing in life. He went to Calgary to straighten out his life," says Joanne Amond.

Police say they are questioning another man about the murder. CTV News has learned that man is also being questioned about another assault that took place in downtown Calgary on Monday night.

Anyone with information that could help police with the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477,
