Police say a group of Good Samaritans prevented a man in a wheelchair from being mugged at a downtown Edmonton bank Saturday after they stepped in and held an alleged suspect until police arrived.
The incident happened at the HSBC bank located at 10250 101st Street just after 1 p.m.
Police say a man attempted to mug an older man in a wheelchair, when a group of people who were waiting for a bus nearby saw what was happening and intervened. The Good Samaritans held the suspect until police arrived.
The victim, believed to be about 65-years-old, suffered minor facial injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.
"The citizens did a fine job," said Sgt. Serge Soucy. "No one was hurt except our victim...and we took our suspect into custody. He'll be hopefully spending some time in jail here."
Police say robbery charges are pending against the suspect who is believed to be in his mid 40s.
