More people appear to be flowing out of the province for the first time in more than a decade, according to Statistics Canada.

For years, Alberta's prosperous resources have drawn in hundreds of thousands of people from other provinces looking for work.

But Statistics Canada's third quarter population estimate for 2009 shows more people left Alberta to other provinces than came in. And that's the first time that has happened since 1994.

From July to September, more than 20,000 people moved to Alberta, but just over 23,000 left the province.

But despite that, the province's population is still up due to births and international immigration.
