The Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) announced Wednesday that it's signed onto a three-year partnership with the National Gallery of Canada (NGC).
Starting in the New Year, gallery-goers will have the chance to see an ongoing series of exhibitions featuring works drawn from NGC's collections.
The AGA says the exhibition spaces will be displayed on the main floor of the new Art Gallery of Alberta. And the first featured exhibition will be Goya: The Disasters of War and Los Caprichos, which will launch as part of the AGA's grand opening on Jan. 31st and will run until May 30th.
"This ground-breaking partnership will allow the AGA to bring unique exhibitions of art from around the world that have been collected with the vision of our nation's capital art museum to Alberta", said Catherine Crowston, AGA's deputy director and chief curator.
The AGA also announced a second partnership Wednesday. The gallery has now entered into a three-year relationship with Edmonton-based Capital Power Corporation (Capital Power). The first initiative, Capital Powered Art, is designed to fund more than 10 national and international exhibitions at the AGA, which includes the Goya exhibition.
"We want to reach out beyond the borders of Edmonton to engage the entire province and beyond. Hosting and curating exhibitions that feature incredible works from The National Gallery of Canada's collection will help us do just that," said AGA's executive director Gilles H�bert.
AGA will open with a two-day celebration on Jan. 31st, and free tickets will be available on Jan. 18th on the AGA's website, youraga.ca.
