As of Monday morning, all Albertans over the age of six month will be able to roll up their sleeves to receive the H1N1 vaccine, and this time health officials are promising a more efficient system for handling potential lineups.

Unlike the mass immunization program that was shut down three weeks ago when demand outpaced supply and people spent several hours waiting in line, Alberta Health Services says it now has enough needles to vaccinate 50,000 people a day.

Health officials also say they'll hand out wrist bands if wait times exceed an hour, giving people an estimate of when they have to return to get the shot. AHS does not believe it's necessary to line up before clinics open in the morning.

The improvements to the immunization program come after a Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey conducted earlier this month found 61 per cent of Albertans believe the government did a poor job handling the vaccination roll out - the worst grade out of all the provinces.

Alberta's health superboard says it is continually making improvements to the clinics, including the goal of delivering the vaccine through other providers like family physicians, pharmacies, and post secondary and employer clinics in the coming weeks.

650,000 Albertans have been immunized so far, while at least 45 people have died from the virus since April and more than 1,000 have been hospitalized.

Last week the head of AHS Stephen Duckett said the second wave of the virus is easing off, reducing pressure on local emergency rooms and intensive care units. Still, it's believed another wave of infection could hit in the spring, prompting AHS officials to recommend Albertans get inoculated.
