A Conservative candidate got a helping hand from federal Environment Minister Jim Prentice Saturday morning as the two went door knocking in the riding of Edmonton-Strathcona, which was lost to the NDP's Linda Duncan last election.

MP hopeful Ryan Hastman says that even though there is no sign of an upcoming election, he is hoping to win people over by talking to them in person about his policies regarding safer communities, the economy and health care.

"My goal is to get to every last door and if it takes me a year, or if it takes me two years, I'm going to do it," said Hastman.

The Conservatives had a 36-year stronghold on the riding of Edmonton-Strathcona until Rahim Jaffer narrowly lost it to NDP candidate Linda Duncan in the last election.

"It's an extremely important riding and we have a really exceptional candidate who is working hard," said Prentice. "We really want to win this seat back."

Minister Prentice gave a speech in Edmonton on Friday, where he discussed the upcoming UN climate change conference in Copenhagen, Denmark.
