A man is dead after being struck by vehicle in a parking lot near 99 Street and Jasper Avenue Thursday night.

Edmonton police are still trying to piece together what happened at this point but have received reports from several eyewitnesses that the victim had been striking a nearby vehicle with his hands and yelling at the driver before being struck by the vehicle as it fled the area.

Officers arrived shortly after to discover the man's body.

The fleeing vehicle was described as a dark-coloured 4-door sedan. It may have damage to the front end.

"We still don't have the car, we're still looking for a dark-coloured sedan and that's part of our investigation right now. (We're) trying to find out what kind of car it is, once we get that information we will hopefully pass it out to the public," said Insp. Terry Rocchio with the Edmonton Police Service.

Officers continue to speak with witnesses, but at this time have no description of the person driving the vehicle.

Anyone who may have information about this collision is asked to call police at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
