One man was taken to hospital to be treated for a stab wound following an argument inside The Bend bar in southwest Edmonton early Sunday morning.

The incident happened outside the bar near 147th Street and 40th Avenue at about 2 a.m.

Witnesses say an argument erupted inside of the bar before the group was asked to leave.

"Some people got into a little scuffle, the bartender asked them to leave politely and everything was fine," said witness Luc Roussel.

Just a few moments later Roussel says things escalated quickly.

"They were outside throwing punches and he [victim] came back inside saying he was stabbed," explained Roussel.

Both police and EMS arrived on scene shortly after and transported the man to hospital to be treated for a single stab wound to the stomach.

The incident has left some concerned about the use of weapons in common bar fights.

"People don't fight anymore with fists," said Roussel. "Ten years ago people would just go outside, settle their differences and they'd be back in the bar buying each other drinks, these days it's knives."

The victim's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Police have not released any information about possible suspects.
