The daughter of a woman killed last month in Edmonton showed up in court Tuesday to face the man charged with the murder.
27-year-old Ellen Negasi showed emotion as she saw her father, Tesfai Negasi, in the courtroom.
52-year-old Tesfai Negasi has been charged with the second-degree murder of his 46-year-old wife Selamawit Negasi. He is also charged with offering indignity to a body.
A number of the victim's family members and friends were wearing T-shirts printed with a photograph of Selamawit.
Ellen Negasi told CTV reporter Serena Mah that her mother had four daughters, all of whom miss her very much.
"She was everything to us, she was our angel and now she is truly our angel," she said.
Ellen said her mother loved to smile and was full of life.
The story had a bizarre start when Tesfai walked into Edmonton police headquarters back in early July and confessed to murder. According to court documents, Tesfai pointed police out a vehicle parked in the street. One officer said he saw what appeared to be a dismembered body with body parts wrapped in possible plastic wrap.
Investigators found that inside Tesfai's home, sheets were missing from the upstairs bedroom and it appeared that someone had attempted to clean up a large mess.
The couple's children are being treated as witnesses in the case. Tesfai was ordered to have no contact with his children.
He will be back in court on September 15th.
