A 30-year old Edmonton man has been charged in the fatal collision that claimed the life of his 20-year old passenger.

The crash happened near 178th St. and 96th Ave. on July 13th. Witnesses told CTV News a motorcycle with two riders was driving at a very high rate of speed, darting in and out of traffic. The driver lost control and hit the curb. Both riders flew off their bikes, slamming into two trees. One of the men was found over a wall in a nearby backyard.

The 20-year old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The 30-year old driver was rushed to hospital in critical condition. He also lost his lower left leg in the crash.

Curtis Chilke has been charged with dangerous driving causing death.
