Autopsy results determined Thursday that a Grande Cache family was involved in a murder-suicide.

Late Tuesday afternoon, RCMP officers responded to a call asking them to check on the occupants of a home in Grande Cache. Upon arrival, officers found three bodies inside the home, two females and a male.

The family has been identified as 49-year-old Kerry Saltel, 47-year-old Gail Saltel and their 17-year-old daughter Erika.

The investigation found that all three family members died from gunshot injuries with Kerry Saltel's appearing to have been self-inflicted.

RCMP said they are not seeking any persons of interest or suspects outside of the residence.

"Investigators at this stage in the investigation do not believe that anyone outside of the three people found inside that home had any involvement or participation in the loss of lives," said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Wayne Oakes.

Erika attended high school and Kerry and Gail recently opened up their own music and book store in town. The couple also have another daughter but she wasn't home when the bodies were discovered.

Grande Cache Mayor Louise Krewusik said the Saltel family were good people.

"I knew them well enough to know that they were good people, they were a good family," said Krewusik. "They weren't the kind of folks who were engaged in a whole lot of community activities and organizations, but they were the kind of simple people that make a community strong."

Kerry was terminally ill with colon cancer and friends suggested it was taking a toll on his wife, who took care of most of the family business.

"I just know that he's been on sick leave for a long time, like two or three years, and apparently it's a terminal illness." said neighbour Gina Goldie.

Grande Cache is located 436 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
